Meet HyAnZi
At HyAnZi Theater we strive to have thought provoking and inclusive productions that will embrace all people of the community, thus creating a diverse environment. Through creative and trans-formative works we strive to educate and nurture young minds.
On a cool Spring Day on May 7th 1992. HyAnZi Theater Company was birthed from the minds of it's three founders Hyein Choi, Andell Ramsunder, and Zipporah Genyard. Three powerful women seeking to make a difference in their world. They started by bringing a theater class into a New York Public School in the Lower East Side. At East Side Community High School the class popularity grew so much that we had to branch out into an after School program in order to serve for more students. From there we branched out into Bushwick Leaders HIGH school in Brooklyn, Bronx Preparatory Charter School.

It was after 6 years we acquired our Black Box Theater in the west village. This was also the place where our main office was. Revolutionary was a place to allow our high school kids a place to perform their works at the end of their school year. We also started putting on original works, dance shows, plays, and hosting Spoken Word competitions.

A year later after a good season we increased our staff by hiring 5 full time staff members. It is also at this time we entered into an agreement with CUNY to offer tickets for their students at a discounted rate.
7 years later in 2005 we entered into an agreement with investors to help us acquire our Broadway theater house on 47th street. It was also at this time that co-founder Andell Ramsunder sold their shares to the company to Hyein and Zipporah who remain co-owners of HyAnZi.

At HyAnZi we put on remakes of plays with a different twist as well as original works. With HyAnZi theater house we hired even more people. At this same time we kept our office inside Revolutionary and began renting space in Tribeca on Reade St, where we do much smaller workshops and readings. This also the space where our main Administrative admin live.
